Cypress essential oil | Cupressus sempervirens

Traditional use: In ancient times, the cypress tree was considered a symbol of immortality, strength and protection from evil forces. In China, it was believed that eating the seeds of this tree could improve vitality and ensure longevity. The Romans, on the other hand, used its branches to express concern for the afterlife of their relatives. To this day, cypress continues to be used in natural medicine as a comprehensive health support. The essential oil of this tree is a valuable resource used in aromatherapy because of its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and astringent properties. It is often used in acne and oily skin care as it improves blood circulation and also removes excess water from the body, allowing the skin to maintain its elasticity and healthy appearance. At the same time, cypress oil supports natural detoxification processes, since it acts as a diuretic and increases sweat secretion. Occurrence: Mediterranean cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) is a species of coniferous tree from the cypress family (Cupressaceae) that grows up to 30 m in height. The crown of the cypress is narrow and slender with closely clinging, large needles. In turn, its bark is grayish-brown in color and slightly cracked. The flowering period of this plant is in March. It can be found naturally in the Mediterranean Basin, as well as in Iran and other Middle East countries. Cypress is most popular in France, Spain and Morocco.

Biochemistry: Among the compounds that are responsible for the unique aroma of cypress oil, the most significant are monoterpene hydrocarbons, including alpha-pinene and 3-carene. In addition, the main components of this oil include limonene, cedrol, myrcene and alpha-terpinolene.

Our oil is produced in the process of steam distillation from the leaves and branches of cypress trees collected in the mountainous areas of Spain. Thanks to that, each drop contains an optimal concentration of active ingredients and a bouquet of aromas unique to this plant.

Fun fact: The wood of the Mediterranean cypress is highly resistant to decay. For this reason, in ancient times it was often used to make statues in honor of the gods.
