Brahmi herbal oil | Bacopa monnieri
Traditional use: In the Hindu tradition Indian pennywort (Bacopa monnieri), or simply Brahmi, has many uses but it is known particularly as a healing herb. Throughout the years people came up with many nicknames to describe Brahmi, e.g. ānoble herbā or āthe herb of those who thinkā. Itās been actually used for thousands of years in order to reduce the issues with thinking processes and mental fatigue. The oil produced with the traditional, Ayurvedic method helps to keep the mind clear, but it also protects the nervous system from harmful factors and supports proper functioning of the memory. And thanks to the saponins contained in it, the oil has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that are especially useful during cold and flu seasons. It is also a popular ingredient added to the hair conditioners because it makes the hair stronger and prevents hair loss. Additionally, Brahmi oil makes them shiny and helps to keep the proper color. Just a few drops of Brahmi mixed with a carrier oil will make a great massage oil. The deep, sweet, fruity and herbal aroma will induce a state of deep relaxation and release tension from your muscles, just like if you were in a Hindu temple.
Occurrence: Indian pennywort (Bacopa monnieri) is a perennial, creeping plant from the family Plantaginaceae. It has oblong, thick leaves that are light green in color. It also has small, single flowers with five petals with different colors – they can be white, pink or purple.
Naturally Brahmi grows in humid areas, near the shallow water basins located below 1300 m mean sea level. It is one of the most popular Bacopa species – it can be found all over the world from the middle to tropical latitudes. However, it mostly grows in India.
Biochemistry: Brahmi has a special place in Ayurveda because of the high amount of saponins. Essential oil carries many active compounds, including: bacosides, bacopasides, bramine, monierine, herpestine and hersaponin.Ā
The oil available in our shop is obtained by mixing the leaves of Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) with a sesame oil. Thanks to that every drop is optimally condensed and has an aroma bouquet unique for this plant.
Fun fact: The traditional name of Indian pennywort refers to the fact that herb has become one of the most valued natural medicine ingredients. It has the name of Brahmi – the divine founder of Brahma.Ā

The first of these neurotransmitters is responsible for the proper functioning of the reward system. The second helps to calm the nervous system and strengthen stress resilience. Serotonin, on the other hand, is called the happiness hormone, since it is responsible for a sense of mental well-being. The results of numerous tests have proven that Brahmi is able to significantly reduce the bodyās susceptibility to stress, and thus has a positive effect on mood.

Supports the nervous system: Traditional application of Brahmi includes supporting cognitive functions, especially memory and attention. Modern research confirms the validity of this approach. The oil from this plant contains substances that significantly increase blood flow in the vessels that supply the brain. As a result, neurons can receive more oxygen and nutrients necessary for their proper functioning. It has a beneficial outcome of improved synaptic activity and the transmission of nerve impulses. It can also stimulate the development of dendrites within the hippocampus (the structure responsible for long-term memory). Brahmi also increases the activity of acetylcholine – a neurotransmitter responsible for the ability to concentrate, information processing and efficient work of memory. Its health-promoting properties tend to last long after use.

Regulates the immune system: Scientific findings indicate that the biologically active compounds present in Brahmi oil help to normalize the activity of immune system cells. During tests with cell cultures and animal models, they have been proven to neutralize chronic inflammation within not only the central nervous system, but also the entire organism. Their effectiveness was comparable with popular anti-inflammatory drugs. In addition, these compounds have been shown to support the function of white blood cells and protect their DNA from damage due to harmful factors such as free radicals. They also stimulate the production of antibodies by B-type lymphocytes. Thanks to that, Brahmi oil helps to defend the body from attacks of pathogenic microbes and the excessive activity of the immune system.

Improves overall health: Brahmi is known as a great adaptogenic herb because it exhibits a wide range of health-promoting properties. Research suggests that the active compounds contained in the Brahmi oil help to cleanse the body. They protect the liver and kidneys from the effects of toxic substances and increase the activity of key liver antioxidants, including the most powerful among them – glutathione. They are also able to support circulation by regulating blood pressure and lowering cholesterol. These compounds show an anticoagulant effect but also improve flow in blood vessels. Their effect on the skin is quite important. This is because the components of Brahmi oil accelerate wound healing and exhibit sanitizing properties. They can also reduce the appearance of scars formed during recovery. They have a beneficial influence on hair follicles, stimulating their function and preventing hair loss.
