Amber essential oil | Pinus succinefera
Traditional use:Ā Amber is a fascinating raw material, which for centuries has been of great interest to jewelry collectors who appreciate the distinctive shine and yellow-orange color of this fossilized resin. In ancient times, amber was attributed with almost mystical properties. Romans carried it in their pockets to improve vitality and fertility. Parents, in turn, often prepared a necklace with nuggets of amber for their children to protect them from disease. Some time later, there were new methods developed to extract the essential oil from this resin. As early as in the 17th century, Italian traveler Giacomo Fantuzzi wrote about it, describing it as tart and fizzy, and praised its many health-promoting benefits. Experts of natural medicine most often use amber oil to boost immunity and fight respiratory infections. They also use it to improve blood circulation, promote proper heart function and relieve pain. Due to its relaxing properties, it also works well as a support for well-being. The deep, resinous aroma of amber has a comprehensive effect on the senses and facilitates a state of relaxation, which is why the oil is traditionally used to increase libido. It is also credited with the ability to improve sexual performance and fertility.
Occurrence:Ā Amber is the fossilized resin of coniferous trees covering the Earth during the Tertiary period. The average age of the gems is 30-40 million years. More than 60 varieties of this raw material have been distinguished. The vast majority of its world reserves come from the Kaliningrad region. In Poland, the largest amounts of amber can be found on the coasts of the Baltic Sea. It is most often dark brown, orange or yellow in color, while there are also varieties with olive-green, blue or gray hues.
The oil offered in our store is made from the resin of prehistoric pine species. The raw material used in the production of the oil was extracted in the Indian part of the Himalayas.
Biochemistry:Ā Amber essential oil primarily contains compounds from the terpene group, including azulene, aromadendrene, longipinene, borneol, camphor, tunbergol or phenchol derivatives, among others. In addition, sesquiterpenes, monoterpenes and compounds from the ketone group may be found in amber oil.
The oil available in our shop is produced by the “dry distillation” method, in which pieces of amber are heated at high temperatures without oxygen. Thanks to this, the obtained oil retains a high content of active compounds and a unique aroma.
Fun fact:Ā The largest lump of Baltic amber was found in 1860 in the village Rarvin located in Poland. It is 50 cm long and weighs about 9.75 kg.
