That is why balanced dopamine activity is crucial for well-being and a high level of motivation. N-acetyl-L-tyrosine is a precurosor of dopamine while St. John’s wort has the potential to reduce dopamine reuptake. Moreover, Ginkgo, St. John’s wort and Rhodiola prevent molecules of this compound from deactivating too quickly. In the central nervous system, dopamine is produced from an amino acid tyrosine. N-acetyl-L-tyrosine is an acetylated derivative of this compound that gets absorbed more efficiently than the “original”, so it reaches the brain in greater amounts and can be used to produce dopamine.
