CBD cannabis oil | Cannabis sativa

Traditional use: In recent years, CBD oil and other cannabis products have been getting a lot of interest in numerous countries. It would be easy to assume that it has to be some kind of a new invention. Well, guess what! The first information about cannabis use can be found in the books written about 3 000 years ago! According to the legends, the mythological emperor of China – Shennong – highly valued cannabis and liked to prepare infusions with this herb in order to treat multiple ailments, e.g. memory issues, malaria and rheumatism. Throughout the years Cannabis sativa plants have become an important part of Traditional Chinese Medicine and still being used by herbal medicine experts up to this day. However, there are more interesting stories from the past! Historians claim that king Henry the 8th encouraged farmers under his rule to cultivate cannabis, and so did the settlers from Virginia in the early stage of the United States development. Another noble story refers to the queen Victoria known for her unusually long ruling. As the rumor has it, she also appreciated the effects of cannabis using it particularly as a painkiller. In the 19th century scientists started to apply scientific methods in order to study this herb and its properties. It didn’t take them a long time to identify cannabidiol (CBD) as it was discovered in 1940 by chemist Roger Adams and the first successful synthesis occurred in 1963.

Some may wonder – why exactly is CBD so popular? It turns out that from all the active substances contained in cannabis this compound has the greatest potential in natural medicine and exhibits the widest range of applications. CBD affects the functioning of the central nervous system. It is worth mentioning that we all have something called the endocannabinoid system which includes receptors that bind with CBD. As a result, cannabidiol influences processes that naturally occur in the organism, e.g. appetite, sleep, memory and pain management. It also shows some interesting properties in terms of neuroprotection as it supports the neural cells and in the long run prevents neurodegeneration issues. What is more, CBD lowers oxidative stress and slows down the aging of neurons. Some people prefer to use the oil in order to calm down and get a nice moment of relaxation because CBD effectively reduces anxiety and acts as a natural antidepressant. In addition to that, it induces a good night’s sleep so it might be taken in the evening, about an hour before going to bed. Another important thing about CBD is the fact that it is a great support during cold and flu seasons. The oil significantly reduces inflammation and stimulates immune response of white blood cells that fight the pathogens. The anti-inflammatory effects are also quite important for the skin. Cannabidiol gives it a healthy look but also speeds up the process of wound healing and lowers the amount of secreted sebum that, in excess, leads to skin acne. This compound is an effective remedy for joint ailments, especially since it has analgesic properties, similar to those of over-the-counter painkillers. Recently, the researchers are trying to figure out if CBD can actually become an important part of cancer therapy. The oil has a great potential in that regard, but we still need more research to make sure what are the exact mechanisms and effects of CBD.

Occurrence: Cannabis sativa is a plant species belonging to the family of Cannabis. It has large, branched stems that grow up to 2 meters in height. The leaves of this herb have a distinctive shape of the palm with a few lanceolate lobes and serrated edges. Every lobe is 10 cm long and 2 cm wide. The green parts of the plant release a strong smell that is a composition of about 100 chemical compounds.

Cannabis sativa is grown primarily in France and China. Those two countries produce 80% of cannabis resources. This plant is also popular in other countries of Europe, Australia, the Middle East and mountain regions of Caucasus and Altai.

Biochemistry: Cannabidiol is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of cannabinoids. It accounts for almost half of the hemp extract. The oil available in our shop contains 5% – 20% of pure CBD (depending on the chosen option) which makes it effective and completely safe. Besides that, there are many compounds in CBD oil with the highest amount of terpenes and sesquiterpenes. There are also: myrcene, alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, limonene, beta-phellandrene, ocimene, terpinolene, alpha-bergamotene, trans-caryophyllene, alpha-humulene and beta-farnesene.

CBG oil available in our shop comes from organic crops and is completely legal. It does not contain psychoactive substances. It does not stimulate or sedate like THC and can be safely used for therapeutic purposes.

Fun fact: CBG is the most effective when it is mixed with other active substances and essential oil of cannabis. The existence of terpenes and substances like CBD or THC, even in small amounts, supports health benefits of CBG. This synergic activity of cannabinoids is known as an entourage effect. For the first time it was described in 1998.

Relieves stress: Scientific findings show that CBD affects the activity of serotonin receptors, which are plentiful in the brain structures associated with anxiety and stress. It is also able to modify the activity of mu-opioid receptors – the same ones activated by morphine. The exact mechanism of CBD function in the central nervous system is still unclear. Though, there are suggestions that cannabidiol acts as an allosteric modulator of these receptors, and also regulates the expression of genes encoding one of the GABA receptors. The effect of CBD is an overall reduction of the central nervous system activity, and therefore the entire body. During studies, it was observed that participants using preparations with this compound experienced reduced levels of anxiety and stress.

Improves sleep quality: High stress is one of the most common factors causing sleep problems. CBD helps to deal with tension. As it supports the activity of GABA and serotonin – major inhibitory neurotransmitters – it makes it easier to relax and calm down before bedtime. The proper activity of these brain chemicals is essential for falling asleep and getting a refreshing rest. The results of numerous studies have shown that the use of CBD makes body regeneration during sleep more efficient. When asked for their subjective sensations, people participating in the tests with CBD claimed that after taking this compound, they felt much more rested.

Anti-inflammatory effects: Numerous studies suggest that CBD works well against issues caused by excessive inflammation. This compound has been proven to inhibit the activation of Th1 and Th2 lymphocytes, but also reduce the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Besides that, it can stimulate the anti-inflammatory effects of neutrophils. By activating the endocannabinoid system, CBD is able to relieve pain associated with the ongoing inflammatory process. Tests conducted with animal models have shown that the use of this compound contributes to reduced swelling and slower progression of inflammation. Studies involving people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis have generated similar results. After several weeks of CBD use, the participants reported an alleviation of symptoms, with no side effects.

Improves overall health condition: CBD shows a very wide range of health-promoting properties that affect the entire body. Among other things, it has a positive influence on the cardiovascular system. During clinical tests, it has been observed to lower blood pressure at rest and reduce its elevation due to exercise or stress. Moreover, it diminishes arterial stiffness and improves blood flow. It has also been proven that CBD can protect neurons from the effects of toxic substances as well as ischemia and hypoxia. In studies with animal models, it has been shown to reduce the toxicity of beta-amyloid, the accumulation of which is one of the main factors promoting the development of Alzheimer’s disease. It also protects cells from oxidative stress, as it is a powerful antioxidant, perhaps even stronger than ascorbic acid (vitamin C) or tocopherol (vitamin E). Research suggests that it can improve skin condition as it normalizes sebum production and shows an anti-acne effect. Scientists speculate that CBD may be helpful in the fight against addictions, including smoking. During the studies, volunteers using this compound were able to smoke 40% fewer cigarettes than usual and did not report increased nicotine cravings. All of this makes CBD a valuable support for one’s body condition.
